Taylor & Ring Represents Sexual Abuse Victims Against Santa Barbara’s Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital
Louanne Masry of Taylor & Ring is representing a 56-year-old woman and a 50-year-old woman, who were both sexually assaulted by Jose Carrillo, a former employee of Santa Barbara Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital, during their stay after brain surgery. Both women made formal complaints to management and were promised the authorities would be contacted; however, the complaints never reached law enforcement and were blatantly ignored. Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital and its parent company Cottage Health Systems along with Mr. Carrillo are being sued for sexual battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, dependent adult abuse, fraud and negligence.
The case has drawn media coverage in Santa Barbara because Cottage Hospital is a local institution that has deflected complaints about its services for years. Mr. Carrillo was fired by the hospital after law enforcement began investigating the case once the women were discharged from the hospital and complained directly to the police. The matter is ongoing, with the trials scheduled for late 2014 or early 2015.
