Former LA County Sheriff Convicted Of Rape
Taylor & Ring is representing a 24-year-old woman, “Jane Doe,” who was raped by Jose Rigaberto Sanchez, a former Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy. Deputy Sanchez used his position of authority as a sheriff’s deputy to pull over female drivers and then attempt to sexually assault them through threats and bribes. One night he pulled over “Jane Doe” and threatened to arrest her for DUI and driving with a suspended license. He then forced her into his sheriff’s car, drove her to a secluded area, and raped her.
Jane Doe reported the incident to law enforcement, who conducted an extensive investigation and located other females who said Deputy Sanchez tried similar tactics with them after he pulled them over. Deputy Sanchez was arrested and eventually plead guilty to serious criminal charges of sexual assault under color of authority. He will serve eight years in prison.
Victims’ lawyers John C. Taylor and James Lewis represent Jane Doe in the civil lawsuit against the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
John C. Taylor said, “Based on the deputy’s assertive manner during their encounter, the fact that he went directly to a hiding spot, and then his ability to immediately ‘go back to doing business’ indicates that there are likely other victims.”
Mr. Taylor concludes his client is, “relieved to hear that Sanchez can no longer victimize and attack other women.”
This case was featured in the Los Angeles Times and The Santa Clarita Valley Signal.
