Los Angeles TimesInterviews Dave Ring on Attorneys’ Tactics in Sexual Abuse Case Against LAUSD
In the article, “L.A. Unified says girl, 14, could consent to sex with teacher” published by Los Angeles Times, Partner Dave Ring comments on the Los Angeles Unified School District’s attorneys’ questionable tactics in the Edison Middle School sexual abuse case. The attorneys for the school district are arguing that the 14-year-old student was mature enough to consent to sex with her math teacher at Edison Middle School and that her past sexual history was evidence of such.
Mr. Ring explained that he has never heard of anyone presenting the sexual history of a minor in court and called the action despicable. He also added that middle school students are incapable of consenting to sex with adults, especially with teachers and others who can exploit their positions of authority to manipulate them into such acts.
