Taylor & Ring Files Lawsuit Against Former Paso Robles High School Teacher and School District for Sexual Abuse
On July 6, Partner Dave Ring filed a civil lawsuit against former teacher Jeremy Monn, Paso Robles Joint Unified School District, Big Oak Flat Groveland Unified School District and Superintendent Dave Urquhart. The lawsuit alleges Mr. Monn, who was working as the agriculture teacher at Paso Robles High School, sexually abused a 16-year-old student during the 2013-2014 school year. Previously convicted of having sex with a 15-year-old student at his previous place of employment – Don Pedro High School – Mr. Monn is expected to be sentenced in the criminal case to a combined term of seven years in prison for both cases.
Mr. Monn allegedly manipulated female students at Don Pedro High School and coerced a student into having a sexual relationship with him. When the allegations circulated, Superintendent Urquhart never reported the crime to the police. In fact, he told Mr. Monn he would give him a favorable recommendation if he found another job.
“By failing to adequately supervise, monitor, or investigate, (Paso Robles school district) allowed Monn to continue, unhindered, with his predatory conduct directed toward underage students, including (the victim),” states the lawsuit.
Mr. Monn is scheduled to be sentenced on July 13.
